Kate Walsh is an American actress and entrepreneur born on October 13, 1967, in San Jose, California. She is best known as Dr. Addison Montgomery, the surgeon she played on ABC's Grey's Anatomy and its spin-off Private Practice, which she led from 2007 to 2013.
Walsh has since played Olivia Baker in Netflix's 13 Reasons Why, the Handler in The Umbrella Academy, and Madeline Wheeler, Emily's Chicago boss, in Emily in Paris. In 2010 she founded Boyfriend, a fragrance and beauty brand.

Early Life
Kathleen Erin Walsh was born in San Jose and raised in Tucson, Arizona, where she graduated from Catalina Magnet High School. She studied acting at the University of Arizona but left before graduating.
In the 1980s she worked in fast-food jobs and spent time in Japan, where she modelled and taught English, before turning to acting.

Career
Walsh made her film debut in Normal Life (1996) and had a recurring role as Nicki Fifer on The Drew Carey Show from 1997 to 2002. Film work in the early 2000s included Under the Tuscan Sun (2003) and Kicking & Screaming (2005).
She joined Grey's Anatomy in 2005 as Dr. Addison Montgomery. The character proved popular enough to anchor Private Practice, which ran on ABC from 2007 to 2013 with Walsh in the lead. She has returned to Grey's Anatomy as Addison in later seasons, including appearances between 2021 and 2023.
