Biography

Kathryn Bernardo is a Filipino actress, born Kathryn Chandria Manuel Bernardo on March 26, 1996, in Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija, Philippines. She is one of the leading film and television stars of her generation, known for ABS-CBN dramas such as Mara Clara, Princess and I, Got to Believe and La Luna Sangre, and for the romantic films Hello, Love, Goodbye (2019) and Hello, Love, Again (2024).

Hello, Love, Again, which paired her with Alden Richards, became the first Filipino film to earn more than one billion pesos at the worldwide box office in November 2024, overtaking Rewind as the country's highest-grossing local film. Her other honors include a FAMAS Best Actress award for A Very Good Girl, several Box Office Queen titles and the Outstanding Asian Star award at the Seoul International Drama Awards.

Early Life

Bernardo is the youngest of four children of Teodore and Luzviminda Bernardo. She attended Flowerlane Montessori Children's House in Cabanatuan and later OB Montessori Center in Quezon City, before moving to the UST Angelicum College homeschooling program in 2011 to fit school around her work.

She started acting as a child, debuting in 2003 as the young Cielo in the series It Might Be You. She later enrolled in a marketing course at Enderun Colleges but put her studies on hold when the filming schedule of Got to Believe made it difficult to continue.

Career

After her debut, Bernardo became a regular on the children's sketch comedy Goin' Bulilit from 2005 to 2008. Her breakthrough came in 2010 with the lead role of Mara del Valle in the remake of Mara Clara, followed by the youth series Growing Up in 2011.

She went on to headline a run of primetime dramas, many with former screen partner Daniel Padilla: Princess and I (2012-2013), Got to Believe (2013-2014), Pangako Sa 'Yo (2015-2016), La Luna Sangre (2017-2018) and 2 Good 2 Be True (2022). Her film work in that period included The Hows of Us, which earned her Star Awards and EDDYS Best Actress recognition.

In 2019 she starred opposite Alden Richards in Hello, Love, Goodbye, playing an overseas Filipino worker in Hong Kong. She took on a darker role in A Very Good Girl (2023), which won her the FAMAS Best Actress award, and reunited with Richards for the sequel Hello, Love, Again (2024), which follows Filipino workers in Canada. In November 2024 she received the Star Rising Leopard Award at the Asian World Film Festival.

In 2025 Bernardo served as a judge on the seventh season of Pilipinas Got Talent. Her wax figure at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong was unveiled in July 2026, and she is listed in the lead role of the 2026 series Someone, Someday.
