Mercy Johnson

Johnson was the fourth of seven children of Daniel Johnson, a former naval officer, and his wife Elizabeth, who died in May 2018. Although born in Lagos, her family comes from Okene in Kogi State. Because of her father's naval career she spent parts of her childhood in different cities, beginning primary school in Calabar and later attending Nigerian Navy Secondary School in Port Harcourt.

After secondary school she auditioned for the film The Maid, which became her screen debut in 2004.

Following The Maid (2004), Johnson worked steadily in home-video dramas, appearing in titles such as Into Temptation, Women in Power, Lost to Lust, Kill the Bride, Under the Sky, Hustlers, Baby Oku in America and War in the Palace. She became known for energetic, physically demanding roles and for comedies, culminating in the 2009 AMAA award for Live to Remember and the 2013 AMVCA Best Actress award for Dumebi the Dirty Girl.

In November 2013 a group of producers and marketers barred her from films over her fees; the ban was lifted in March 2014 after an apology. In April 2017 she was appointed Senior Special Assistant on Entertainment, Arts and Culture to the then Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, as reported by Premium Times.

Moving into production, she produced The Legend of Inikpi, which premiered in Lagos in January 2020, and has since released comedy content featuring her children, including The Birthday. She has endorsement deals with brands such as Hollandia Evap Milk. She married Prince Odianosen Okojie on 27 August 2011, and the couple have four children.
