Biography

Mohamed Ramadan is an Egyptian actor and singer, born on 23 May 1988 in Qena Governorate in Upper Egypt. Fans call him "The Eagle of Upper Egypt", after one of his best-known series, and he is one of the most talked-about stars of Arabic television, with several of his series ranking among the most-watched shows of the Ramadan season.

He came to prominence in films such as The German (2012), Lion Heart (2013) and Abdu Mota (2014), then built his television fame with Ibn Halal (2014), Al Ostoura (2016), Zelzal (2017), Nesr El Saeed (2018), El Prince (2020) and Gaafar El Omda (2023). He has also had a successful music career and won the Murex d'Or for best Arab actor.

Early Life

Ramadan's parents both come from Qena, and his family traces its roots to the village of Al-Qala in the Qift district; the family later moved to Giza Governorate. He is the youngest of his siblings.

As a schoolboy he joined the Zamalek SC football academy, but he gave up football to concentrate on his studies at El Saidya high school. He acted in school theatre there and won the school's best young talent award two years in a row. The critic Ahmed Abdel Hamid wrote about him in Al-Gomhuria and encouraged his mother to let him study at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts.

Career

After small television roles, including in The Cinderella, Ramadan got his break in Yousry Nasrallah's film Scheherazade, Tell Me a Story. He then led a series of action films, The German, Lion Heart and Abdu Mota, that were commercially successful but criticised for their violence, and that made him one of the most bankable actors in the region.

On television he became known for tough, streetwise characters. His role as Nasser El-Dessouky in Al Ostoura (2016) was so popular that viewers widely copied the character's look and mannerisms. He later starred in Zelzal (2017), Nesr El Saeed (2018), El Prince (2020) and Gaafar El Omda (2023), and in the film The Treasure (2017) and its 2019 sequel. He won the Arab Sat festival's best actor award three years running.

Ramadan made his commercial theatre debut in 2016 with Ahlan Ramadan at Al-Haram Theatre, later taking it to Bahrain and Kuwait. In 2026 he played the lead in Mohamed Diab's film Asad, a historical drama about slavery inspired by the story of Spartacus, made on a budget of about 7 million US dollars.
