Early Life
He was born to Nguyễn Đức Thiện and Phạm Thị Thanh Bình. His mother was a traditional dancer and chèo theatre performer. His family noticed his singing when he was two. At eight he joined Thái Bình's Children's Arts and Culture Palace, where he learned the electronic keyboard. His parents wanted him to focus on school, but he kept entering talent shows. In 2009 he formed Over Band with classmates and began posting songs on the music site LadyKillah. He later joined the hip-hop group Young Pilots and took the name M-TP. His younger brother, Nguyễn Việt Hoàng, also became a singer, under the name Mono.
In 2012 he was admitted to the Conservatory of Ho Chi Minh City with one of its highest entrance scores. He took a leave of absence in 2014 to concentrate on his career.
